Looking to World School but not quite ready to make the plunge?

Here are my top 10 tips to get you started!

1) Well now you have discovered Worldschooling - where do you want to go? The world is your oyster! Do a little research on a destination. What learning opportunities are available to you and your family there? What is the cost of living like? - it may actually be cheaper to live there than at home!

2) Join Facebook groups and talk to like minded people. There may not be anyone in your network doing what you are doing but there are thousands all over the world. My favourite groups are We are Worldshoolers, Worldschoolers,

3) Some people like to sell their homes to free up cash - but there are so many other options. Can you rent your home while you are away? Some families fund their entire overseas travel by renting out their homes. You can use sites like Airbnb - Get a $50 credit here

You can list your property right here on our Facebook Group for free. Don't want to rent? How about Swap? That way you don't have to totally pack up all your belongings. Sign up for free with our preferred swap partner - People Like Us

4) Pet / Home sit? Some people will let you stay in their homes for free! Can you believe that? All you have to do is feed and look after their pet and possibly do a few chores. We have some listed in our Facebook Group or you could sign up with Trusted Housesitters. Watch their introduction to petsitting video here

5) Get rid of the clutter. Take a trip to the tip or the local charity shop and give all that stuff away you don't use. Unwanted Christmas presents? Saving things just in case you need them in the future? Get rid of it - you will be surprised just how invigorating it feels. The less you own the less you have to take care of and maintain. Sell books on Amazon and everything else on eBay.

6) What about working? Can you work online? Will your boss allow you a sabbatical or to work from home? This day and age many jobs can be done from anywhere you are in the globe as long as you have a good internet connection. Are you a graphic designer? Marketer? Translator? I have used the online platform Fiver in the past to outsource online help. Set up a free account and get get started selling your services straight away. You can literally generate a remote income anywhere.

7) Take out some good travel insurance, At least if the worst were to happen you will have peace of mind of having something to fall back on. We use World Nomads.

8) Apart from all the things your kids can learn on the road - there are numerous meet-ups arranged by other Worldschooling families. Keep an eye on those Facebook groups or organise a meet-up of your own. Want something a bit more structured? There are numerous schools throughout the world that allow you to register your child for a short period of time. How about Wood School, Bali or Life Project Education, Costa Rica. Kids a little older? How about volunteering? Check out Plan My Gap Year or GVI. Both these organisations organise programs for teenagers. How about learning a foreign language? We use Preply for online tutors.

How about an organised trip? We have used both GAdventures and for all our day trips we use Get Your Guide

10) Just remember - there will never be the perfect time. Things will always cross your path to make you delay your plans. There is a big wide world out there waiting for you to explore. You can not plan for every eventuality.

Just go!
